What is it?

A medical assistant focuses on the medical care of a patient, administering medications and injections, and monitoring the patient’s vital health. Medical assistants support doctors and other health professionals, usually working in a hospital, health clinic, or physician’s office. Demand for medical assistants is very high, and a degree in this field leads to more advanced, in-demand medical career paths.

What will I do?

  • Monitors patient care and takes patient vital signs including: taking blood pressure taking and examining blood and urine samples; changing wound dressings; removing stitches; performing basic tests and examinations
  • Administrative work includes: greets and admits patients; data input of vital health information; instructs patients about general care, medicinal procedures, and special diets; scheduling patient appointments
