What is it?

 

Lasers are used in lots of products you see every day.  If you have a DVD or Blu-Ray player at home, its laser technology that produces the video on your TV.  In the grocery store bar code scanners at the check-out counter are used to scan the food you purchase.  In medicine lasers are used today for LASIK eye surgery or to remove cancerous spots on your skin.  And in manufacturing lasers are used to cut, drill, or mark a variety of materials.

 

What will I do?

  • Laser technicians develop, operate, test, and repair laser technology used for a variety of uses, from manufacturing to medicine.

  • As a laser field service technician, you will install lasers and teach on-site users how to use the equipment.

  • Cosmetic laser technicians use lasers every day to remove unsightly veins, cancer on skin, and hair, as well as reduce scar tissue or wrinkles
