Early Education

& Teaching

Human Services

Do you love kids, or love to babysit?

Consider EARLY EDUCATION & TEACHING.

What is it?

Early childhood teaching is a quickly growing field, with high demand for teachers as the number of children entering pre-kindergarten programs has exploded over the last 10-20 years. Exposing a young child to art, music, language, math and social settings will improve a child’s development. Early childhood educators teach and guide preschool children, helping them to adjust socially and interact with other children, and giving them the building blocks to be curious and learn.

What will I do?

  • You will work in a traditional elementary school, preschool, nursery school, or child care center
  • Assess children’s developmental needs, building individualized curriculum around each child’s identified needs, development stage, and interests
  • Plan daily and weekly programs and activities to help children make progress and achieve their goals
  • Make sure students are healthy, feel safe, are challenged, and learn how to interact with others.

Leads to these jobs:

  • Elementary school teacher
  • Middle school teacher
  • High school teacher
  • Assistant teacher
  • Children’s librarian
  • Day care provider
  • DCFS
  • Early childhood educator
  • Nanny
  • Public school aide
  • Social worker / counselor

Is this for me?

  • First and foremost, you must love to interact with children
  • You should be able to relate to young children at their level, to earn their trust, and feel safe
  • Have empathy, compassion, and strong verbal and visual communication skills
  • You should be creative, flexible and adaptive
